But the fighter still remains.

파란색 부분의 가사는 Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970) 에 실려있는 The Boxer 에서는 들을 수 없습니다. 그 가사 대신 연주가 들어가 있지요. 그것은 Art Garfunkel 의 아이디어 였는데 폴도 좋아했다고 합니다. 그래서 그 가사대신 Pedal Steel Guitar 와 Picolo Trumpet의 연주가 들어가 있습니다. 그렇지만 라이브에서는 종종 사라진 가사를 넣어서 불렀습니다. Paul Simon의 솔로 앨범인 Live Rhymin', 이 1975년 Saturday Night Live, 그리고 1981년 Central Park 공연 등에서 그랬지요. 그리고 또 1969-1970년 Tour에서도 그렇게 부른 것으로 알려져있습니다. Live at Miami University 라는 Bootleg음반에서 들어볼 수 있고, 곧 출시될 "Live 69"에서도 들어볼 수 있을 것으로 생각합니다.

 

폴 사이먼의 솔로 앨범인 Live Rhymin' (1974)에는 사라진 가사도 들어가 있지만 마지막에 연주도 들어가 있습니다. Picolo Trumpet 대신 La Quena 라고 하는 페루의 전통악기 (Flute과 비슷하다고 함)를 Urubamba가 연주 했었지요. 전 그  Boxer를  젤 좋아합니다.

 

아름다운 가사라고 할수는 없을지 모르지만 누구나의 마음에라도 닿을 수 있는 그런 내용인것 같습니다. 밥 딜런은 자기를 노래했다고 생각했다고 합니다. 그렇지만, 폴 사이먼은 언젠가 자신을 노래한 것이다 라고 이야기 했습니다.
