Grateful Dead - Wang Dang Doodle (Bill Graham Memorial, 1991)

 

 

1991년 11월 3일 Bill Graham Memorial Concert - Laughter, Love, and Music 중 한곡입니다. The Polo Fields, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA 에서 있었던 공연이지요.

 

Wang Dang Doodle 은 Willie Dixon 이란 사람이 만든 곡이고 Grateful Dead가 처음 부른 것은 1983년이라고 합니다. 제가 찾아본 바로는 1983년 10월 11일 Madison Square Garden 공연에서 첫곡으로 불렀네요.. 그것이 첫 연주인지는 모르겠습니다.

정식앨범에 나타난것은 1990년 7월 8일 Three Rivers Stadium, Pittsburgh 에서의 공연을 담은 View From The Vault (DVD, CD) 인거 같습니다.

 

Willie Dixon이 말하길 Wang Dang Doodle은 "즐거운 시간"이란 의미라고 합니다. Wang Dang 은 춤추는 무도회를 의미하고요. 가사에 보면 "We're gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all nite long" 이라고 나온는데, 밤새도록 춤추면서 신나게 놀겠다라는 뜻인거 같네요.

 

전반적으로 매우 흥겨운 곡이고 John Popper의 하모니카 연주도 듣기 좋습니다. John Popper는 Rock Band인 Blues Traveler의 멤버로 하모니카, 어쿠스틱 기타를 주로 연주했던 아티스트입니다.

 

Grateful Dead의 연주를 즐기는 관중들이 참 부럽습니다. Jerry Garcia가 없으니 그럴 기회를 갖는게 불가능하겠지요.
